Shauna L. Howard, Soprano

American spinto soprano Shauna L. Howard has performed over 600 years of classical & contemporary music. After she debuted as a soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2004, she began her vocal training with dramatic soprano Demareus Cooper. She studied with mezzo-soprano Dr. Lorie Gratis, soprano Sheryl Woods, and mezzo-soprano Florence Quivar at Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance. Her dramatic 4 1/2-octave range, stylistic versatility, and authenticity have allowed her to perform in a variety of performances of opera, sacred oratorio, cantata, musical theater, jazz, gospel, rock, & pop music.  She has toured with recording artists such as Josh Groban, Patti LaBelle, and Helmut Lotti while working with Christ Church of Philadelphia, St. Luke's Episcopal ChurchPittsburgh Theater Festival, St. John's Cathedral, St. James' In-The-City Korean Choir, The Golden Voices of Gospel, Church of our Saviour, and more!

To fund her singing career, she turned her childhood hobby of fiber art into Fierce Stitch, an online boutique that manufactures handcrafted winter accessories.  The EROICA, her signature fashion accessory that was inspired by Lenny Kravitz's famous scarf, was commissioned as a prop by Netflix's Fuller House in 2017. It was also featured in Buzzfeed's "31 Things That Will Make You So Much Cozier This Fall". After selling her handcrafted designs on three continents for many years, she traveled the nation advocating for the arts, creative entrepreneurship, and small business development using her motivational speaking skills, positive psychology training, diversity (& inclusion) leadership, and performing arts talent.

For fun, you can find her grooving at a salsa dancing social to cha-cha, mambo, pachanga, and guaguanco. In a previous lifetime, she was probably a comedian, a bass player, a writer, and a Harley-Davidson owner.  She can make wine magically disappear and has a sixth sense for vacant parking spots & thrift shops bargains.  Bacon and passport stamps are her motivation. Green smoothies, a good book, dogs, and proper usage of the Oxford comma instantly give her joy; however, nothing in the world brings her happiness quite like sharing her talent with the world.

Great news!  I have been accepted to study Italian language and classical music at the Sessione Senese per la Musica at the University of Siena!

Sessione Senese per la Musica is a study abroad music festival that is centered in Siena, Italy in cooperation with the Ministry of Advanced Education of Siena, University of Siena and American universities & colleges. SSMA provides opportunities to perform vocal and instrumental music in formal and informal concert settings in various towns in Tuscany. Concerts are prepared with renowned Italian and American faculty artists who work to achieve the highest levels of artistry, musicality, diction, stage presence, and dramatic intent. The chamber orchestra, comprised of students from around the world sitting amongst native Italians, work closely with soloists to achieve a rewarding collaboration.

This year, I will study Italian language and classical music with soprano Mariastella Di Lorenzo, mezzo-soprano Laura Polverelli, chorus master Paolo Gragnoli, and music director Joseph Del Principe.
